Cathy Faughnan

Cathy grew up in Pueblo CO watching and learning to sew from her mother turned textile artist. She attended the University of Colorado and received a degree in Environmental Design with many classes in art, design and art history. Cathy then went on to work as an urban planner in New York City but always wanted to paint. She moved back to Colorado in 2003 and raised 3 kids in Lafayette while volunteering and dabbling in painting. In 2017 when Cathy's youngest graduated from high school, she finally had time to really dig into painting, so she started taking classes from local artists, attending workshops and experimenting with different mediums and techniques, She landed on acrylic but have has recently dabbled in sculpture, mixed media and stitched collage. Cathy is thrilled to be a Key Artist at R Gallery in Boulder.  She participates in the Boulder Open Studios and East Boulder County Artist Studio Tours and shows at pARTiculars Gallery in Lafayette and Western Stars Gallery in Lyons.  Cathy teaches acrylic painting and mixed media at pARTiculars Gallery in Lafayette.

Cathy would describe her paintings as bold modern impressionism.  She loves strong colors and is inspired by the west and especially Colorado; paining landscapes, florals and animals found in our beloved state.  Much of Cathy's work is created in our her cabin in near Estes Park where she is endlessly fascinated by the rocks, trees, and vistas she sees out her window and while hiking. Cathy's unique use of color, texture and layering sets her work apart and hopefully brings joy to those who see and own one of her pieces.
